You've got to worship something...
In the previous piece we focused on atheism as one of the foundations of modem liberalism. But, there are even worse consequences of atheism being our state religion than spawning a bankrupt and destructive political philosophy.
As the very first commandment puts it, “I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.” To the ancient Israelites, the meaning of this commandment was crystal clear. Surrounded by polytheistic cultures, the Israelites were only too familiar with idols and multiple gods. But THIS would be monotheism and here was the one God.
From the dawn of civilization, there was always a belief system of some kind. Whether it be worshipping the sun, burning incense to idols, or even sacrificing children and virgins to the fertility gods, there was always…something. The theory of contemporary atheism is that there is…nothing.
Perhaps this came about as an act of rebellion, or as a way to escape the uptight restrictions of so-called “organized religion.” And, perhaps this rebellion was a way to set oneself free from any standards of morality—which of course came from religion. After all, under atheism, there is no objective good and evil. If it feels right, do it.
To be sure, atheists readily acknowledge that criminals exist, but the anti-social acts are not their fault. The offender either had a bad childhood, or simply needs to be educated as to how to act in polite society. All we need to do is to visit every prison and explain to the poor ignorant convicts that it is wrong to steal and kill. You see, they did not know that.
But, why ARE these things wrong if there is no objective good and evil? Is it because there are laws against certain behavior? Now, we’re getting somewhere! Who created these laws? An atheist cannot bear to admit that they derive from the Ten Commandments, so he must credit the Government as being the founder of this secular morality.
Following from this is the notion that somehow the Government creates your rights—even though the Bill of Rights was intended to PROTECT you from the Government. Minor inconvenience. With no God, how could your basic rights originate from God?
As to that hole in your heart for God, or at least something to worship, under atheism, every form of idolatry can come rushing in. We saw it during COVID, remember? From the get-go, there were plenty of people who warned against the government/globalist excesses of the awful “vaccines” and the lockdowns. However, anyone who spoke out against the ruinous policies—no matter how accomplished they might be—were “canceled” in pretty short order.
Thus, the liberals and the atheists started to worship “Science”—especially as it was defined by the anointed experts, because how could those dumb bible-thumpers possibly know anything about this new scary disease? Soon enough, wearing a mask became a political statement—as in liberals wore them and conservatives didn’t.
This fanatic embrace of official “science” was able to overcome nearly constant reports of people dying suddenly, or vaccinated people still getting the disease, or any other contrary finding.
Irrational Trump hatred grew ever stronger since he was the only person attacking the Deep State, which like the Mafia had its very existence denied by its own members. The Founders did not anticipate that pure evil could overcome their checks and balances.
Will we come to our senses? I hope so, but it will have to get a lot worse before it gets any better.
